THE MOUNTAIN LAW IN THE DRÔME: UNDERSTANDING EVERYTHING IN A FEW WORDS

Every year, news stories related to accidents and motorists stranded on snowy roads delight the paper and television news. To the great dismay of drivers who only want one thing: to be able to drive with complete peace of mind.

Thus, the authorities have decided to tackle this problem head on by providing a lasting solution to this seasonal problem. The Mountain law was born .

Its principle is simple: in order to reduce the risk of accidents and traffic jams on the most problematic mountain roads, all motorists who must use the mountain roads defined by law must equip yourself with adequate anti-snow equipment .

This can be snow tires, snow chains or snow socks depending on individual needs. The goal: to guarantee the safety of everyone on heavily snowy and/or icy roads.

THE SCOPE OF ACTION OF THE MOUNTAIN LAW IN THE DRÔME

There Mountain law in Drôme concerns a total of 55 municipalities, mainly located in the east of the department.

Please note: only motorists who reside within these municipalities or who pass through them during the winter season are involved. That is, between the 1st November and March 31.

Signs have also been put in place to indicate the entrances and exits to areas affected by the Mountain law in Drôme . These are panels B58 and B59, rectangular in shape. As soon as you see the zone entrance sign, you know to equip yourself (and remove the equipment as quickly as possible as soon as you exit).

SNOW SOCKS, SNOW CHAINS OR SNOW TIRE MANDATORY IN THE DRÔME?

To be in compliance with the Mountain law in Drôme , it is necessary to have the right anti-snow equipment.

If you live in one of the municipalities concerned or if you pass through them on a regular basis, it may be interesting to equip your vehicle with snow tires . In fact, this type of material offers you excellent grip on snowy or icy roads. Plus, you don't need to equip and remove them every time you enter and exit an area. In return, you have to go through a garage to install them on your car and store the other tires in a secure place in the meantime.

Another possibility: the snow chains . Very effective in snowy or icy weather, they are however long and difficult to install on your tires. In addition, you are forced to remove them quickly, as they are not suitable for driving on dry roads.

THE Snow socks , ultimately, are a little less efficient than snow chains. However, they are simpler to assemble. Like snow chains, they must be removed once on dry asphalt.

Please note: you do not need to place your anti-snow material on all your tires. In fact, you just need to install them on your drive wheels.

In all cases, you must always have your equipment with you in order to show it to the police in the event of an inspection. Otherwise, you risk a fine of €135.
